Help
In an era not so long ago, country folks tried to make it easier for those in need by offering needed services or resources. Even children of a young age were taught the principle of sharing and helping. Neighbors were quick to render assistance by “lend a helping hand.” Doing someone a service was accomplished without expectation of any remuneration what-so-ever. They were “good neighbors.” In the market place such praises as these were heard: “do someone a good turn, bail someone out of a tight spot, give someone a leg up, do one's part, rally round, pitch in with help or chip in with resources · get someone out of a tight spot, save someone's skin, etc.” Oh, if only those attitudes were as prolific as they once were. Here, in ‘our’ world, we have so much and give so little. God’s word addresses just this subject. At one point He refers to returning to walk in the old ways. (Jeremiah 6:16) The conclusion is to walk so as to please God and for that simple reason only.
- Acts 26:22 “Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:”
- Romans 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”
- 2 Corinthians 1:11 “Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.”
- Hebrews 4:16 “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
