Sacrifice
Sacrifice
In our daily walk, we hear and say “I will” or ‘I will not” sacrifice for this or that. The reference is to earthly things and is applied to define self denial for the benefit of some other entity. To us a sacrifice is something important or precious that is given up for the sake of gaining something that is considered special, as in I had to work hard and make a lot of sacrifices to achieve success. We often do this and in so doing overlook God’s word concerning our sacrifices. [valuate a few of His directives:]
Hebrews 7:24 “But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. 26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; 27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. 28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.”
1 Timothy 2:4 “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”
Hebrews 10:11 “...every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: (1 Hebrews 10:12) “But this man [Jesus], after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;” Peter 2:5 “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 10:26 “For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice [blood letting of animals] for sins, Hebrews 12:4 “Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, [injury or death for Christ’s sake] striving against sin.”
- Romans 12:1 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. (Hebrews 13:15) “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.”
