Bad Things, Good People
Bad things, Good People
The time, May 1929, was considered a bad year for Scott County and other communities situate in the path of a multi-series of tornadoes. The F2 tornado, which struck Rye Cove School, killed at least 42 people and injured 323, is still one of the worst in Scott County history. It touched down on Rye Cove school during study time. Reports are that it carried the principle over a quarter mile and dropped him in a large pond of water.
Near the same time a tornado also demolished Culpeper school east of Scott County. They were distinctly different. School was in session at Rye Cove when the swirling winds struck. School was out for the day when winds destroyed Culpeper school. One school demolish took children’s lives. The other spared lives. What made the difference? Why do bad things happen to good and innocent people?
- Matthew 5:45 “That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”
- Those who step outside on a bright sunny day are touched equally by God’s shining. Some to their detriment and some for a blessing. God isn’t the one that makes the difference. Just because God is aware of our infirmities don’t prove He is the issuer of them. We live in a world flooded with evil and plagued by Satan. It’s a world chosen for us in the Garden of Eden. Turning to God as your choice for worship does not alter the curse of Eden.
- Matthew 19:14 ”But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” (Romans 2:11) “For there is no respect of persons with God.
- 1 Peter 3:18 “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: (John 16:33) “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
- Romans 5:3 “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;” (Suffer with Christ if you live in His love; or.)
- Judges 10:14 “Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.
Romans 838For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Know God, know peace. Amen. 03/21/21 BLL
