“But for a Season”...the Wayfarer 1/16/16

“But for a Season” “For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.” (2 Corinthians 7:8) 1/16/16 But for a season!  Today we go to the second letter to the church at Corinth written by Paul, necessitated by the fact that after cleaning itself up, getting rid of most of the false teachings that brought about that first letter, they once more started to forget the very purpose of worship, the very point of Christianity, the very truth of what was taught by Jesus, allowing once more worldly things to creep in among the church and lead it away from what was intended. (1 Timothy 6-8) Paul’s missive to the young minister that gives so much pertinent guidance to both him in his day, and us in ours, echoes the teachings of none less than Jesus in reference to having contentment with the blessings delivered us, rather than constantly seeking earthly gain as opposed to the gain that is attained through a contentment given only through the spiritual gain, achieved by serving our Savior instead of our own wishes and wealth. Matthew 6:19-21 King James Version (KJV) 19  Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where
