The sight of the Eyes
12/13/15

⁹ Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: this is also vanity and vexation of spirit.

(Ecclesiastes 6:9)

Sight, seeing, comprehension of what is real, and what is only shadow and illusion are an important part of temporal, physical life that is used daily to guide one through the stumblingblocks and detours that must be made to get from point to point without bodily injury.

Ditches, potholes, pits that are seen, are avoided, both while on foot or in a conveyance of any kind whether land vehicle, water vehicle or air vehicle.

The same should hold true for the voyage, the journey taken daily by the soul, trapped in that physical body, a mere conveyance that also is moving from one point to another point, its final destination.

Equal care should be taken to exert concentration on the intent of the journey of that soul, as is taken by that body from temporal point to point.

Distractors are numerous for both.

Texting while driving often will result in loss of concentration on the reality of the dangers that are faced during a physical journey, and many recognize the dangers of doing so, avoiding that danger.

Yet many others recognize that danger and persist in ignoring it, perhaps thinking that they have some ability that is not available to others, or that what is being said in the text is more important than the safety of themselves and others, the result of which is often serious injury or death to themselves and others as well.

The same principle applies to the spiritual man, the soul and its journey, what is seen, what is avoided, what is ignored and what is compromised by that lack of attention.

(Ecclesiastes 6:1-8)

1. There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is common among men:

² A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.

³ If a man beget an hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, and his soul be not filled with good, and also that he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he.

⁴ For he cometh in with vanity, and departeth in darkness, and his name shall be covered with darkness.

⁵ Moreover he hath not seen the sun, nor known any thing: this hath more rest than the other.

⁶ Yea, though he live a thousand years twice told, yet hath he seen no good: do not all go to one place?

⁷ All the labour of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.

⁸ For what hath the wise more than the fool? what hath the poor, that knoweth to walk before the living?

No matter the wealth of this world that is accumulated, it holds no sway  once that destination of the soul has been reached, and is no longer in control of the one who thought it so important during that journey, be it long or be it short.

The importance of what is accomplished during that journey lies, not in the distractors, but in the destination itself!

(Ecclesiastes 6:10-12)

¹⁰ That which hath been is named already, and it is known that it is man: neither may he contend with him that is mightier than he.

¹¹ Seeing there be many things that increase vanity, what is man the better?

¹² For who knoweth what is good for man in this life, all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?

What is mightier than man… is , God, and the eternity that is faced by man and may not be contended with in any fashion.

The vanity of this life may only be recognized if sight is used to see the realities of the soul as well as the realities of the body.

James 4

4 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

² Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

³ Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

⁴ Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

⁵ Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

⁶ But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

⁷ Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

⁸ Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

¹¹ Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

¹² There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

¹³ Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

¹⁴ Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

¹⁵ For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

¹⁶ But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

¹⁷ Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Concentration on the here and now, and the physical things hold no importance in the longview.

What should hold importance should be the soul of the wayfarer taking that journey, and those with whom he sojourns along that journey.

The souls of all that are reachable and teachable are capable of attaining the sight that is necessary for the completion of the journey, and arrival at the destination intended by God, if proper emphasis is placed on that destination as opposed to the distractors along the way.

This may occur only if that sight is in existence, and will only be in existence with the realization of the ability given to reach that destination only with the ONE capable of giving that sight, Christ Jesus, Whose life, death, burial and resurrection were not vanity, but were the gift of the grace that is that sight!

Once sight is given, it must be used.

Destination is chosen by usage, or denial of that sight.

God loved us enough to send the Light and sight to us through the sacrifice of our Savior.

We have the option to choose sight and the light, or to choose blindness and the darkness that allows only the perception of the physical.

Sight comes only with faith, all have faith in something, whether acknowledged or not.

We either have faith in God, and in the gift given through Jesus, or we choose to place faith in mankind and in the lack of sight that comes with it.

I chose long ago, and continue to choose to have faith only in that light given, in that sight given through Christ Jesus.

I remain a wayfarer, sojourner and soldier, a simple human man, like all others physically, but a sinner saved by God’s eternal and unending grace through faith in His Son Christ Jesus.

I pray for the restoration of that sight for all who will choose to see, and the grace of God’s salvation for them as well, acknowledging that the choice must be their own, yet longing to show them the light and sight that is available, before the darkness envelopes this temporal world for the final time, and is banished forever by that precious Light yet to come.
