The Lord is my Rock
8/12/14

"And David spake unto the Lord the words of this song in the day that the Lord had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:
And he said, the Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and deliverer;
The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my savior; thou savest me from violence.
I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
(2 Samuel 22:1-4)

David's life, though extremely blessed throughout his years, was also one of tribulation and chastisement for mistakes made throughout that life.

All the enemies of God's people that came against him were consistently defeated, his people spared and guaranteed survival in perpetuity.

From simple shepherd boy, lovingly guarding his father's sheep to King entrusted with guarding an entire nation. He was thrust from the simplicity that allowed him to know, serve, honor, and praise the Lord in songs given in the meadows where he tended the sheep of his father, into the wealth and power in the city and palaces of Saul after having performed what he considered his duty to his people by killing Goliath, which solidified the security of Saul and more importantly the security of the people being led by him.

His very service to the Lord earned him many enemies of great power, who tried time and again to kill him, failing to do so only because of the protection of God, to Whom David remained so loyal, obedient and subservient.

As Saul turned from God, David remained steadfastly planted in his faith, that faith founded on an immovable  Rock that sustained him in times both of blessing and chastisement.

It was the lineage of a simple shepherd boy that cared so deeply about his father's sheep that continued and continues today to protect the sheep of the Father of all, God himself.

It is that Rock, to which he clung so diligently that allowed the foundation upon which Gods laws were passed to generation after generation, first to the select and elect children of Abraham, his predecessor and forefather, then to the Gentile as well as the Jew, as that Rock was given to all through Christ's birth; ministry; teachings; and most singularly important, the sacrifice made by His crucifixion for providing that ability to find a way to the Father that is that Rock.

All houses, all lives, are built on a foundation, either the foundation of a trust in man and the teachings of men, or on the foundation given us that guarantees that life is acceptable, profitable to the one living it, and honorable to the purpose intended for it by God.
A valid and pertinent question for each is simply, on what is your foundation built? Is your Rock the Rock that David recognized or merely crumbling sandstone that must fail to perform its intended function?

"Therefore, whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened  unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell; and great was the fall of it.
(Matthew 7:24-27)

As the rain begins, the floods rise, and the wind begins to blow in earnest, even so come quickly, Lord Jesus!

2 Timothy 1:12 King James Version (KJV)

12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

Amen and Amen
