Hold Fast My Trust
HOLD
FAST MY TRUST
It
is highly advisable that all who can do so place their full trust in
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ during these times of dark
depression and confinement. Hiding, hunkered down, in some “safe
place” it is easy to feel protected and to trust in self. God’s
children are protected and safe to the limits of their cable-toe
God-ward. In Junior college we were taught a very interesting poem.
Here in, part, is that Bard’s vied of dying and trusting God.
Thanatopsis
is
poem written by American author William Cullen Bryant. Bryant is a
nature poet and is well-known for this poem published
in 1888.
He was
also an editor for fifty
years of the New York Evening Post. Supporter
of President Lincoln, attorney and accomplished nature poet. A
lengthily poem well worth reading (in light of the threat of
COVID-19) but here given only the closing lyrics:
“The
youth in life’s green spring, and he who goes
In the full strength of years, matron and maid,
The speechless babe, and the gray-headed man—
Shall one by one be gathered to thy side,
By those, who in their turn shall follow them.
So live, that when thy summons comes to join
The innumerable caravan, which moves
To that mysterious realm, where each shall take
His chamber in the silent halls of death,
Thou go not, like the quarry-slave at night,
Scourged to his dungeon, but, sustained and soothed
By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave,
Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch
About him, and lies down to pleasant dreams.”
Putting
our trust in Jesus Christ assures us that we have uninterrupted
protection by one who has “the stuff” to keep us.
Matthew
28:18
“And
Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All
power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. (19)
Go
ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: (20)
Teaching
them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo,
I am with you alway, even
unto the end of the world.
Amen. (Matthew
12:21)
“And
in his name shall the Gentiles trust.”
2
Corinthians 1:9 “But
we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust
in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:
- 2 Corinthians 1:10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us; (2 Corinthians 3:4) “And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:
- 1 Timothy 4:10 “For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
- As the apostles of old taught as led by God so are we who teach the truth to day as given by by the Great Holy Spirit in developing lessons.
- 1 Thessalonians 2:4 “But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts. (Hebrews 2:13) “And again, I will put my trust in him.”
- Corona Viruses have no thought process of their own. They lurk only for minutes to hours where deposited. Our contact with them leads to our infection. God certainly is capable of defending us if we trust in Him and follow safety instructions. Make no mistake, God may not intervene in foolish habits. Trust God; know God, know peace. Amen. 05-09-2020 BLL
