The Sound of Silence
THE
SOUND OF SILENCE
There was a popular song a few years past that had the lyrics “Silence Is Golden.” Often this is true when we are communicating with the Lord and listen for His reply. When the wise in the Word speaks, also, is a time to be still and know. It is written, so saith the word of God:
Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 verse one and seven: 1 “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;”
There
is an old “non biblical” proverb to this tone: “It is better to
remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and
remove all doubt.” COVID-19 has many tales of sorrow and they are
spread ‘like wildfire.’ To what purpose, we must ask. Can any
good thing come from gossip of doom, disaster and despair. As
Job suffered fear so does the strongest of people when darkness
permeates their soul.
Job
4:13:
“In
thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on
men, 14
Fear
came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake. 15
Then
a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up: 16
It
stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was
before mine eyes, there
was
silence, and I heard a voice, saying,
17
Shall
mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his
maker?”
- Psalms 31:18 “Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.” 1 Corinthians 14: 27 “If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. 29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. 30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. 31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.”
- 1 Corinthians 14: 31 “For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”
- 1 Timothy 2: 8 “II will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. 9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. 11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
As
Jesus squatted that day, scratching in the sand, he was silent. He
had plainly spoken a truth and closed the conversation. Oft times
silence speaks louder than words. Steven,
the first martyr
for Christ, knelt in silence as stones pounded his life away. He
uttered only a
plea for their forgiveness for their ignorance. Jesus, in His
defense, spoke not a word but let silence full fill prophecy. There
is a time, place and circumstance to speak; not as tale bearers but
pertaining to the Word.
- 1 Peter 2:15 “For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:”
- 2 Thessalonians 3:1 “Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:”
- 2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
- Revelation 8:1 “And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.”
- The thundering loudness of silence cannot be measured, understood nor evaluated. Let your replies be yea and nay as it is written. Always proclaiming such as is the Lords will and you live. Know God, know peace. Amen. 05-02-2020 BLL
