Spit Spat

SPIT SPAT

The bible does not reveal unto us whether or not Cain spit in Abel's face before or after clobbering him with a blow to his head. I suppose not. This practice came on after the flood as a way of showing disgust and anger toward another. It may have been to avoid blows but once again the bible doesn't say. It developed as a great insult, assault and dander as communicable diseases came to be know as transferable in spit. The transfer of disease was usually followed with retaliation and the devil smiled. Face spitting may e a greater cause of “fisteycuff” forays than face slapping. It is a gross, dangerous and demeaning practice. In the bible we began seeing references made to spit by Job. Reading onward, we discover several references to spitting for good and for evil.
Job 30:10 “They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.”
Numbers 12:14 “And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should Numbers 12: “1 And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman. she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again. 15 And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.”

Deuteronomy 25:9 Then shall his brother's wife come unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto that man that will not build up his brother's house.
Leviticus 15:8 And if he that hath the issue spit upon him that is clean; then he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.
Mark 7:33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;
Mark 8:23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.

John 9:6 “When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him, 33 Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles: 34 And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.

Jesus’ words were manifested in reality by the Jewish leaders and reluctant Romans. He wad beaten, mocked, spit upon and died a sacrificial death. Crucified,

Mark 10:34 and they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.
Mark 15:19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshiped him.
Matthew 27:30 Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,
And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
Mark 14:65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.
The passion of Jesus in the greatest historical reporting and his life, death and Resurrection the greatest story ever written. ‘Spiters’ still abound in our society today. I suppose they will until Jesus comes again. Amen. Know God, know peace. 03-10-2020 BLL
