ORIFICES
One
would not be able to not notice a small boy sitting on a bridge
overlooking a brook filled with small fish. Swinging his feet
rhythmically back and forth, he poked restlessly with his finger
attempting to dislodge a reluctant “bugger” from his nostril. His
mind was focused more on the fish below. They would take some effort
to obtain. The nose picking was easy. The sun warm and a gentle
breeze caressed his golden locks of too long hair. He was contend to
just sit, look and pick. He was a child well protected. So intent was
he on the fish that when Spot nudged him with his cold nose he
reacted with a leap off the bridge into the cold, knee deep mountain
water. Drenched and shivering he looked up and discovered spot. Spot
stood with tail wagging happily back at his friend. Anger began to
swell within him. The bugger was forgotten. The fish had hidden
beneath rocks. Stiffly climbing the bank he entered the road and,
robot like, waddled home. He wold have a tough time explaining this
to his parents. They had forbidden his playing in the water.
Colossians
3: 20
“Children, obey your
parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.” As
a child I was taught a little saying “See no evil, hear no evil,
speak no evil” pictured by three little monkeys with hands one over
the eyes, one over the ears and one with hands over the mouth. A very
good illustration
of how we control
what we see, hear and speak. This
little boy was disobedient and suffered the consequences. Proverbs
18:21 “Death
and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it
shall eat the fruit thereof.”
The
boy picked at his nose, an orifice often filled with a sticky
discharge that carries germs. Irritated sinus cause the production of
the slime as does the cold virus. He had been instructed to avoid
picking his nose. Satan had encouraged him, no one would ever know.
Certainly when the devil had him nudged into the stream, it would
appear that he had committed a larger offense. Satan had distracted
him.
There
are a few orifices in the body where the devil can deposit imps and
distract us from obedience to God’s wishes. No doubt, the mouth is
the most suitable for evil to linger and spring forth at the least
prodding spilling out offensive language such as threats,
blasphemies, character assignations and many more unacceptable
attacks against God’s goodness.
The
ear orifice is constantly open and straining to hear a piece of
gossip to feed the tongue. God has warned against such practices.
Proverbs
21:23 “Whoso
keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
James
1:26 “If
any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue,
but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion [is] vain. James
3:8 “But
the tongue can no man tame; [it is] an unruly evil, full of deadly
poison.” In
the flesh it is impossible for a person to control devil initiated
tongue thrusts that offend. It requires a righteous
heart and the Holy Spirit to dampen a tongue heated by
Satan.
Matthew
15: 16 “And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? 17
Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth
goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 18 But those
things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and
they defile the man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts,
murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness,
blasphemies: 20 These are the
things
which defile a man: (Ephesians
4:29)
“Let
no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is
good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the
hearers.”

Peter 3:10 “For
he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue
from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:”
- Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Know God, know peace.
