Resist
RESIST
Zachariah
ch. 2
vs.
12 And the LORD shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and
shall choose Jerusalem again. 13
Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of
his holy habitation.
Zachariah
ch.3:
vss. 1 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the
angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist
him. 2
And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the
LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is
not this a brand plucked out of the fire? 3 Now Joshua was clothed
with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. 4 And he answered
and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the
filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused
thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change
of raiment.
Even
as the lost seek to resist Satan and come to God as humble
children seeking salvation, The devil comes also hoping to resist
them and retain their following. Now, we know that when God’s call
comes and breaks our haughty spirit and love of the devil and we
resist his clinging claws, God resists Satan and rebukes him. Satan
may stand by for any opportunity to snatch away the soul rejecting
him but God resists and rebukes Satan and then Satan’s claws are
lifted; setting the captive free! God cleans the new convert and
wipes away all sin into forever forgetfulness. The old cloak is
discarded and a new one, clean and white, is taken upon the new
creature that once belonged to the world of Satan. When the humbled
flee from Satan they find God waiting with open arms, Hurry! James
4:6 “But
he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud,
but giveth grace unto the humble.
1
Peter 5:5
“Likewise,
ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be
subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God
resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. James
4:7
“Submit
yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from
you.
There
are those among us that either believe not these sayings or give way
to Satan. These are men with corrupt minds, reprobate having not our
Lord nor faith.
- 2 Timothy 3:8 “Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.”
- We must never loose track of the goodness dwelling in the loving power of God toward us, His children. We are to speak words of wisdom, knowledge and understanding which He will give unto us. Always resting the works of Satan and his imps. Luke 21:15 “For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.” Acts 6:9-10 “Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.”
- And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake. Resisting to the end, Old Stephen, had finished the work God had for him and he waits now in peace for the day of the Lord. These heathen resisted the truth Stephen offered unto them. They resisted the WORD OF God.”Romans 13:2 “Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.”
- It is a fearful thing to resist and fall into the hands of a living God who possesses all power forever. Acts 7:51 “Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.” As it was in days long passed by, so it is today. Adam and Eve began the trend of resisting the will of God. Down through the centuries, humans have kept the trend alive under the guiding hand of Satan. Even today those of and in the world risk everything rather than to humble themselves, resist the devil and serve God. Others serve God begrudgingly.
- Romans 9:19 “Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?” Matthew 5:39 “But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” We Christians are not to return evil for evil by lowering our standards and repaying in kind. Love conkers all. If in the end our passiveness leads to harm or even death, we must resist sin. We know that such will come upon the children of God. They first hated Him and killed the beloved Son of God.1 Peter 5:9 “Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. Hebrews 12:4 “Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.”
- Let us resist steadfast believing the commandments and promises of God. Resist the devil. Know God, know peace. Amen. 03-23-2020 BLL
