BASKING
BASKING
I find basking carries many fellow descriptive English words. It is a
word of action; a verb. Some times it is sedate; sometimes robust and
rowdy. Properly
defined: “basking
(present participle) lie exposed to warmth and light, typically from
the sun, for relaxation and pleasure or
sprawled
figures basking in the afternoon sun"
Basking
can be further demonstrated by other words:
(bask) or even to laze
· lie · lounge · relax · sprawl · loll · sunbathe · sun
oneself · warm oneself (basking)
revel in and make the most of (something pleasing). (synonyms:)
revel
· luxuriate · wallow · delight · take pleasure · rejoice ·
glory · indulge oneself · enjoy · relish · savor · lap up ·
get a kick out of · get a thrill out of · get a charge from
Oh,
how we bask in the good times and call upon the Lord when things get
rough. The open mind can most likely discern
the following message(s) already.
Jesus
spoke
the clearest parable as he taught. Feel the reality of man and the
will of God. Luke
12: 16
(Jesus)
“...spake
a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought
forth plentifully: 17
And
he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no
room where to bestow my fruits? 18
And
he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build
greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19
And
I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many
years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and
be merry.
20
But
God said unto him, Thou
fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall
those things be, which thou hast provided? 21
So
is
he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
22
And
he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought
for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall
put on.”Just
at the time we feel satisfied with life’s accomplishments
and decide to get a motor home, take ease in travel, go places and
see things, tragedy strikes. Some bask in the gold and silver, never
realizing when
enough is enough. Still others hoard
unto themselves
all
manner of goods and substances while refusing to share a morsel with
their neighbor. Some get to a comfort spot in life and lay there on
their pallet sunning themselves. Christians, we cannot bask
in luxury while others perish. (2
Samuel
11:)
“And
it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time
when kings go forth to
battle,
that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and
they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David
tarried (basked)
still at Jerusalem. 2
And
it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David
arose from off his bed, (Basking)
and
walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a
woman washing herself; (Basking)
and
the woman was
very beautiful to look upon. 3
And
David sent and enquired after the woman. And one
said, Is
not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the
Hittite?
4
And
David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he
lay with her; (Baskinfg
for she was purified from her uncleanness:
and she returned unto her house.
King
David should have been at battle with his army as was the custom.
Yet, he chose to bask at home in luxury.
Temptation confronted him and he basked
in sin. Trouble , for him, began and would not depart the house of
David. (Zechariah
1:15
)“And
I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I
was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.
Amos
6:1
“Woe
to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of
Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of
Israel came! Deuteronomy
28:65
And
among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole
of thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a trembling
heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:
Ezekiel
23:42
“And
a voice of a multitude being at ease was with her: and with the men
of the common sort were brought Sabeans from the wilderness, which
put bracelets upon their hands, and beautiful crowns upon their
heads” Isaiah
32:9
“Rise
up, ye women that are at ease; hear my voice, ye careless daughters;
give ear unto my speech. Isaiah
32:11 “Tremble,
ye women that are at ease; be troubled, ye careless ones”
- There is a time to bask and take our ease. When the body grows weary unto death and the mind dwindles away, if we have fought the good fight basking in the grace of our lord Jesus, the time of refreshment has arrived. Otherwise we fight to the last breath putting forth the glory of God.
- Job 7:13 Job 21:23 “One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.”Psalms 25:13 “His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.” Job 12:5 He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease. Psalms 123:4 “Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud. Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest..” Know God, know peace. Amen. 03-21-2020 BLL
