The Journey
THE
JOURNEY
“A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Step” This ancient Chinese proverb eludes to the truth that a person must begin their journey to achieve their goal or reach their destination. It expresses deep insight concerning determination and avoiding procrastination. It means you can’t reach the end unless you begin the journey. All things commence with simple beginnings. Unless, of course. you are someone like Donald Trump.
If
an initiative is taken, the rest of the venture falls into place, and
the mission begins
to some logical end according to the walk.
This proverb applies to a wide range of different circumstances where
action needs to be taken for the completion of a task. Hence, in this
saying ‘journey’ means a task or
an action
and is
not
limited to traveling only. However, a step is a starting point. A
‘thousand miles’ shows the longevity of a journey, while a
‘single step’ is an initial move. In other words, no matter how
ambiguous the task is, or how laborious the work is, a movement is
always required to begin the
journey.
This
quote was first used in Chinese classic text; Tao
Te Ching
attributed to Lao Tzu, a renowned Chinese philosopher. It was
probably written between the 4th or 6th century. President, John F
Kennedy reintroduced this quote “A Journey of a thousand miles
begins with a single step” in 1963 concerning
the first nuclear test ban agreement.
After
many months of confinement, hours of news media flooding our mind
with death, violence and anger, we seem to be no closer
in our journey's
completion than when we first began. Closing churches was a step in
the wrong direction. Leaving whiskey oriented establishments open was
certainly a
backward step.
Any
step in a journey that leads one or all away from praising
and worshiping God is a misguided step. Whether a leader or a
follower, a Christian or a fool, God is the proper direction for the
first step and all steps thereafter. God must be first in all things
if any are to succeed in
any.
Waiting,
and doing nothing, will not create success and can
not help you achieve your goals, tasks or chores. You need to act.
You need to move toward your goal and not wait for the right time,
the right circumstances, or the right mood.
Adams
first step was taken in the garden of
Eden with the receiving the breath of life from God. Noah’s
journey began with the building of an ark. Abraham’s began with the
willingness
to sacrifice Issac. Moses’ began in a basket in the bulrushes.
Many
beginnings began and bloomed from God’s people’s obedient steps.
Jesus’
earthly walk began with a journey to Bethlehem and terminated at the
cross at Calvary. His kingship began there and is still in progress.
You
began a journey;
to what or where? What progress have you made? Is it sanctioned
by God or Satan? Know God, know peace, Amen. 06-04-2929 BLL
