Veil
Veil
Stop
for a moment and attempt to imagine a world where a total face veil
is government mandated and a bare face, even in the home, carries the
death penalty. Now consider how close we may be to that very
condition. A veil serves many purposes. What then is a veil? Muslim
tradition requires a
piece of fine material be
worn
by women to protect or conceal the face. Christian
tradition suggests a bride wear a white veil during wedding
ceremonies. Widows wear a black veil while mourning her deceased
husband. Today, many wear veils to protect against floating corona
virus. A veil separates one thing from another. Except for the
Muslims, the wearing of the veil
is voluntary. The theater draws a curtain
veil between participants and the audience. There are many more
examples and purposes for the use of a veil. But, they are voluntary.
But,
what if they were mandated or absolutely necessary to life. Consider
how history of God’s followers uses the veil.
Adam
and Eve, transformed to a natural body, veiled their bodies with
leaves. Leah
veiled her face to deceive
Jacob in marriage. Joseph
veiled himself with riches from his brothers, Moses came down from
Mount
Horeb glowing with the fire of God., he had to veil his face before
the people.
Moses instructed in the placing of a tough veil between the temple
audience and the Holy of holiest; from humans and God. Jesus, by the
way, rent that separating veil top to bottom opening the way to God
for all. However, there is a veil separating Human Kind from the face
of God. Jesus
is that veil.
- Song of Solomon 5:7 “...the keepers of the walls took away my veil from me.”
- Matthew 27:51 “And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
- Hebrews 6:19 “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;”
- Hebrews 9:3 “And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;”
- Hebrews 10:20 “By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;”
Separating
veils are a necessity in our society today and could easily become
mandatory. Play it safe. Take protective precautions against COVID-19
and know God, know peace. Amen. 06-28-2020 BLL
