The Cup
THE
CUP
1 Corinthians 11:24 “... the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. 27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
Matthew
26-39 “And
he (Jesus)
went
a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my
Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless
not as I will, but as thou wilt.
40
And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith
unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 41
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit
indeed is willing,
but the flesh is weak.”
Bread
and wine was shared after God’s blessings upon them. There are cups
of many colors containing a large variety of drink. Judas did not
drink the cup not take of the bread Jesus offered. He was not worthy.
His flight to the Jewish officials to lead them to the betrayal
of Jesus was at hand. When
their
Passover
Feast
was finished, Jesus,
with the eleven, went into the garden to pray. It was here in the
garden he
first spoke
of the cup
of all
the sins of the world. It was here that Judas placed the kiss of
betrayal
upon Jesus.
The cup, dripping wet with Jesus's
prayers was initiated. This was where he was taken, This marked the
beginning of the
ending of His Earthly walk. The whip will
hurt badly. The crown of thorns would pierce his forehead. The spikes
used to attach him to the cross pounded pains of unbelievable
intensity. The spear piercing He did not feel. Jesus was dead. For
our cup of sins he had died. That was the cup he desired the Father
let pass if
there could be another way.
God
turned away as the sins of all past, present and future filled Jesus’
eternal life with sin.
Without sin one cannot die. Jesus had no sin. He took ours and his
cup overran with sorrow. We live because he let that bitter cup chill
his soul. That is when God turned away.
He cannot look upon sin. Jesus cried out; it was finished.
We
pray in the Spirit knowing God is listening. However we often ask for
current and imminent life’s situations realizing the answer might
not be to our liking. We thus ask it of Him “if it be in thy will.”
Many cups of bitterness would Christians drink because they profess
their Christian Status.” Many troubling times have come. More will
come. Let God’s will ease your heart. Just say to God, concerning
the spread of COVID-19, thy will be done. Know God, know peace, Amen
