Mercy and Comfort

Second Corinthians Chapter One

Mercy and Comfort

3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.
7 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

These verses are chiefly practical They contain many rules of general application. The apostle blesses God for comfort in, and deliverance out of troubles. He professes his own and his fellow-laborers' integrity. God’s standards have not changed over time. His rules and requirements of His servants remain constant over time.

God’s mercy tunes his judgment to bring comfort for those, who through Him, show mercy to the unmerciful. The unknowing, those still in darkness, show no mercy to their own or to God’s; to get mercy show mercy.

James 2:13 “For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.”

God made the rules but He is not bound by them himself. What might seem unfair or unjust to we who suffer afflictions are but the wisdom of God working for the good of all things. After all He is Lord of Lord and King of Kings.
Romans 9:18 “Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.” It behooves us, as God’s children, to show mercy and give and gain comfort from life’s trials. Comfort one another with merciful love that ye also be comforted from above.

Romans 11:31 “Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.” As you do to another the same shall befall you. To inherit eternal life, bring a crowd with you so God’s mercy can work the miracle of salvation. Fear not, for He is always with you. Give mercy and receive comfort. Amen. Know God, know peace. 11-25-2019 BLL
