Temporal

Temporal

Many times we hear a phrase from the pulpit referring to earthly things being temporal. This is, for the physical creation, a true statement but “temporal” has a more defined meaning. It is not a simple concept. It is a truth designed by the hand of God following the “garden fall.” To say that “time will tell” is an old adage inadequate within itself of transmitting the full impact of time. Time often leaves us devastatingly baffled. Time by times count alone can it stop a thing that’s once begun. Time cannot erase the wrinkles from a persons face. Time measures the sprinters speed but to live it must wait until the race is run.

Temporal is related to time in that it is defined or limited by time. God created time which cannot truly be defined by scientists; though many have tried. Time sets the boundaries from beginning to ending of all things physical; relating to the material world. Such boundaries are of temporal dimension; temporal and spatial boundaries set by the running of time. God defined the limits of all things relating to time. As used by expositors of God’s Word, temporal conveys the thought that earthly possessions last only for a relatively short time.

2 Corinthians 4:18While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”

Matthew 6:19 “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

Know God, know peace. Amen. 05/02/21 BLL
