Which Side

Which Side

I have a fellow preacher and friend that is a sometimes songwriter. Brother Jessie Jones is pastor of Collins Chapel just outside of Fort Blackmore Virginia. A song that he wrote just after his conversion has a catchy title; "Which side of the river will you walk on?"

While standing on a bridge crossing a river, one can look right and left. In so doing they can see the lay and roughness of the land. Both sides will not look the same. Going down river being their goal, they only consider that direction. Their choice will be based upon what they see processed through what they know. On the right, a narrow path beneath a towering cliff is accessible. To the left a wide-open field. The choice seemed easy. Though the path on the right was rugged, it lay beneath a bluff that testified that the many feet that had trod that trail indicated it was the right one to traverse. Also, being on the steep side of the river bluff, indicated there may be beautiful waterfalls but no sand traps. There was a partially marked-out sign at the left side that read: "beware of pitfalls and quicksand." The scholar of topography chose the trail that was forced straight by the river gorge and was narrow.

The field to the left displayed trod down grass by a multitude of feet that walked that way. They all had chosen the easy way and read not "the book" of the dangers. Those on the right never glimpsed any travelers on the left bank. The narrow, straight path was the better choice. It was the old path.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) (Jeremiah 6:16) Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.”
Proverbs 4:14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.” ( Ephesians 2:10) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Luke 13:24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.” (Matthew 7:14) “Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Know God, know peace. Amen. 05/31/21 BLL
