The evening was still; it was near seven o'clock. The windows were raised high to let in the cool evening air. The old house was silent except for occasional whisper or cough. A lone figure sat in the hand-hewn rocking chair rocking and waiting. The "Fourth of July" celebration was on elsewhere around the more populated areas of Tennessee and Virginia. The usual carnival with all its frills was roaring with squeals of delight, laughter, and ware selling merchants. It was a once-a-year event and everyone was reluctant to miss attendance. Earl, rocking the chair with wishful loss in his eyes, fingered the fifty cents he has managed to collect over the year to be splurged at the carnival. Alas, Dr. Pollard had been summonsed and his horse, tethered to a hitching post near the steps, occasionally snorted its boredom. The year was 1944. There was to be a happening in the valley that demanded Earl to cancel his plans and wait to deliver necessary supplies. Suddenly there was a wailing scream emanating from within the house and echoing off the surrounding valley's high walls. Nature "hunkered down" still and quiet. The cry had come from a woman in travail giving birth. Bo weighed into that world at that time; a mere four pounds. No one guessed that he was destined to labor in a world given to self-abuse and trespasses, preach God's word, and battle sorrows and illusions. Now at seventy-seven, withered and worn, he sits under a cloud of death. Soon, even "mother time" will have forgotten him.
Many looks into the face of Jesus give the soul that's strained some rest. Therein the soul astir with anxiety can find rest, fears are stilled, and there is joy. From there comes love, light, perfect peace, and every hope fulfilled. Come quickly, sweet Jesus!” (I look toward home.)
John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Romans 5:1 “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Galatians 5:22 "...the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (25) If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit."
Romans 15:13 “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
Romans 15:33 “Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.”
