The fruit of the Holy Spirit - Gentleness

The Fruit of the Holy Spirit – Gentleness

A drill sergeant in the military cannot display gentleness when training his young troops for battle. Their life depends upon their readiness for confrontation. His roughness is not necessarily his true character. Often times, a sergeant will approach and cuddle a wounded soldier with extreme gentleness. If so, that is his true nature.

The Touch of His Gentle Hand is a gospel song sung by Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver Band. Some of the lyrics are: No matter how dark the night Or bitter the wind that blows, One touch of the Master’s gentle hand and I am ready to go….as long as I feel the gentle touch, the touch of of His gentle hand.”

I can truly say that the soft caress of the Holy Spirits gentleness means the world to me. Though I may be secluded in sorrow, the gentle touch of the Lord, will fill every day with tender love.

Gentleness appears in our vocabulary relating to several descriptive situations. Physically, it is used to describe the gentle rise of a land mass from the level to the top. Used to describe the character of living things to their interactions with their young, it means something all together different. It means acting in a manner that is mild, loving and caring. Gentleness is born of love and matures in compassion.

People use gentleness to describe different conditions. Something is said to be “gentle as a whisper; gentle as the falling of dusk; gentle scolding; a gentle tapping at the window. a gentle horse, a child of gentle birth, genteelness of falling snow flakes etc. Gentleness carries the concept of being  kindly in disposition; amiable and tender heated.

Gentleness entails loving your neighbor as you love yourself or your family. The Spirit fruit of gentleness calls Christians to not be harsh or severe but mild and soft; tender of heart and full of caring for others. Treat all people with a smile, friendly greeting and in parting with, “may God bless you.” Gentleness is letting your light shine before the world. God most often deals with us in gentleness. Gentle persuasion is His trademark. However, He is God and he chastens those he loves. If you are his child you recognize and accept this.

Psalms 18:35 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.
2 Corinthians 10:1 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
Know God, know peace. 02/05/21 BLL
