Death of a Fisherman (PART ONE OF TWO)
Death of a Fisherman [PART ONE OF TWO]
Many ask how did the apostles die? I wish I could give bible words to answer them but the New Testament tells of death of only two of the apostles: Judas hanged himself, and James was executed by Herod about 44 AD The deaths of the other seven apostles are known only by tradition and the writings of early Christian historians. It is believed that eight of the Apostles died as Martyrs. At least two of the Apostles, Peter and Andrew were crucified. Tradition says that Peter died in A.D. 64-68 during Nero’s persecution of the Christians. He was crucified upside down on a cross. This is not written in Gods word. It is as factual as inspired writers can compose. Peter was a special follower and saint of Christ. Jesus assigned him a name.
- Mark 3:16 "And Simon he surnamed Peter;
- Matthew 4:18 “And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.”
- Matthew 10:2 “Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter,...”
- Matthew 14:29 “And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.”
Matthew 16:15 “...Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?...16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17And Jesus answered and said unto him,...That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
Luke 5:8 “And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. 11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
- Matthew 19:27 “Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? 28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
- Luke 9:28 “And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. 29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. 30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:
