Fruit of Holy Spirit - Temperance
Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, (23) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law”
Temperance
Finally we take a look at temperance in its biblical application. In all passages where it is used it stresses moderation or voluntary self-restraint. It specifically refers to what an individual voluntarily refrains from doing. Christians must practice temperance to resist temptation and to restrain from revenge by practicing non-violence and forgiveness Also, Christians are to restrain themselves from arrogance by practicing humility and modesty. Such is necessary, in letting a Godly light shine, to restrain oneself from excesses such as extravagant luxury or splurging by practicing prudence. Christians must always display restraint from rage or craving by practicing calmness and self-control.
Never
forget that the Holy Spirit has given us these powers and he, through
His great love,
will fortify us in keeping and using them.
Romans 8:35
“Who
shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation,
or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or
sword? 36
As
it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are
accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37
Nay,
in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that
loved us. 38
For
I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor
principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to
come, 39
Nor
height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate
us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
- 2 Peter 1:3 “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: (5) And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
- Know God, know peace. Amen. 02/09/21 BLL
