Strange Things

STRANGE THING
Hebrews 13:9

Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.”

STRANGE is a descriptive term for something encountered that is unusual or surprising in a way that is unsettling or difficult to understand. It is something or some situation not previously seen, or encountered. Often shocking because it is so unfamiliar or alien.

The instructions and examples of true ministers, who honorably and comfortably closed their testimony with death, should be remembered and uplifted by survivors. And though their ministers ended in death, the great Head and High Priest of the church continues the same. The Bishop of their souls (our), ever lives, and is ever the same. Christ, who is not strange and never changing, God of our faith was the same in the Old Testament day as He appears today. In this time of Grace, He will be to his people equally merciful, powerful, and all-sufficient. Our familiar Savior fills the hungry, encourages the brokenhearted, and welcomes repenting sinners. He still rejects the proud and self-righteous, abhors mere profession, and instructs, as the Holy Spirit, all whom He saves, to love righteousness, shun strange doctrines and to hate iniquity. Believers must seek to have their hearts established in simple dependence on free grace, by the Holy Spirit, which would comfort their hearts, and render them proof against strange delusion. Christ is both our Altar and our Sacrifice; he sanctifies the gift of God’s Grace.

The Lord's supper is the feast of the gospel Passover. Having shown that keeping to the Mosaic law would, according to its own rules, would prevent worshipers from the Christian altar and the throne room of God. Leading to sinning, the law leads also to death. The apostle adds, “Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp; go forth from the ceremonial law, from sin, from the world with its strange habits, and from ourselves to living by faith in Christ Jesus.” Let us therefore be set apart to God through his shed blood; being willingly separated from this strange evil world. Sin, sinners, nor death can thwart our ministry; therefore let us go forth now by faith and seek in Christ the rest and peace which this world cannot afford us. Let us bring our sacrifices to heavens altar and our our High Priest, and offer them up by him. Let there be no strange, forbidden elements in our sacrifice. The sacrifice of praise to God should offer always purity of heart and Grace centered faith. In this we worship, pray and thrive in thanksgiving. God is no stranger to our life. Know God, know peace. Amen 12-07-2019 BLL
