Slip

SLIP
Hebrews 2:1

Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

Most who know me realize that I am a “woods rat.” Being set somewhat aside due to my rustic background and country learning. The language used here in the valley is primarily colloquialism. There is a phrase used, “slip of the tongue”, which refers to speaking precipitously resulting in letting out some secret or offending with confided utterances. Such happenings are irreversible and most often destructive.

Our minds and memories are like a leaky vessels. They do not, without much care, retain what is pounded into them. A ‘slip of the tongue” in a spiritual sense is disastrous. Because it proceeds from the corruption of our nature, temptations, worldly cares, and pleasures of life. Slipping and sliding is sinning against the gospel as given us by the Lord Jesus. It is neglect of our great salvation. We prove with it the lack of commitment, knowledge of God’s word and steadfastness in the gospel truths. We are showing a contempt of the saving grace of God in Christ; making light of it. We are not truly and honestly caring for it but merely play acting. Slipping out little sins, in our haste to please the world, is not regarding either the worth of gospel grace or the love of it. There is no half way ground. We are either in or out. Slipping back and forth is blasphemous. We are in an ‘undone state’ without it.

Bodily slipping is normally physical in nature. Therefore, sinners suffer in the body. But the Lord's judgments, under the gospel dispensation, are chiefly spiritual. I assure you they are, on that account, the more to be dreaded.

Recorded words of God yield an appeal to the consciences of sinners. Even partial neglects will not escape rebukes. They often bring darkness on the souls; souls that they finally ruin. The setting forth of God’s Word by His followers was continued and confirmed according to their personally hearing Christ Jesus speak them. Those who heard Christ became evangelists and apostles, who had first hand knowledge of what Jesus Christ said to both do and teach Through the gifts of the Holy Ghost, God qualified them for the work to which they were called; all according to God's personal will. It was the will of God that we should have “sure ground” for our faith. No “slippery sod” was presented rather the Word is a strong foundation for our hope in receiving eternal life. Let us mind this one needful thing, and study and keep in our hearts the Holy Scriptures. They were written by those who heard the words of our Precious Lord. They were were inspired by His Spirit; Holy Ghost. If we hold fast and slip not, we shall be blessed with the good part that cannot be taken away. Amen. Know God, know peace. 12-12-2019 BLL

James 3:6 |And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

James 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire (slip of the tongue..mine) kindleth.
