Charity
is much
to be preferred over
the gifts on which the Corinthians prided themselves as
possessing.
It
is questionable as to just exactly how they perceived eternity but
they realized it
is an
eternal.
They
saw more clearly as they matured in the Gospel; so do we. Our
present state is a state of childhood, the future that of adulthood;
so
to speak. Romans
9:8
“That
is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the
children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the
seed. 1
John 3:10 “In
this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil:
whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that
loveth not his brother. Luke
20:36 Neither
can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are
the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.”
Looking
through the eyes of a child, believing comes easy as does the keeping
of God’s commandments. 1
Corinthians 13:11 “When
I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought
as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”
Such
is the difference between earth and heaven. What narrow views, what
confused notions of things, have children when compared with adults!
Thus shall we think of our most valued gifts of this world, when we
attain
heaven. All things are dark and confused now, compared with what they
will be hereafter. 1
Corinthians 13:12 “For
now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know
in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
We
can only view
as by the reflection in a mirror, but in
eternity
our knowledge will be free from all obscurity and error. Only
the brightness
of the light
of heaven, will remove all clouds and darkness that hide the face of
God from us.
These
truth’s of God are Spiritually inspired and recorded.
and assents thereto, relying on the Divine Redeemer. Maturity
in God’s Word develops faith and hope that
acts
on future happiness, and waits for that, But
in heaven, faith will be swallowed up in victorious
actual
sight, and hope in enjoyment. There is no room to believe and hope,
when we see and enjoy. But there, love will be made perfect. There we
shall perfectly love God. And there we shall perfectly love one
another. Blessed state! how much surpassing the best below! God is
love, 1 John
4:8,16|. Where God is to be seen as he is, and face to face, there
charity is in its greatest height; there only will it be perfected’
Saul
was a child in knowledge when he was a resister of Jesus and the
concept of charity that He taught. In ignorance he imprisoned and
killed Christians with a zeal. When he was struck blind, se saw more
clearly. When he saw again he was a changed man called Paul. (Acts
22)
6
And
it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto
Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light
round about me. 7
And
I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul,
why persecutest thou me? 8
And
I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of
Nazareth, whom thou persecutest. 9
And
they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but
they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.
10
And
I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and
go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which
are appointed for thee to do. 11
And
when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the
hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.”
It is not uncommon that we have to see to believe. Natural things
may be believed no other way. But, walking by faith, not seeing, is
the mark of a true Christian. St. John from his cell in Rome sent to
inquire of Jesus exactly who he was: when He would reveal His power.
Matthew
11:4 “Jesus
answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things
which ye do hear and see:” Sight
is important however this exact verse is prophesied as a
characteristic of the coming Messiah. John surly knew that verse.
John
saw through God’s word. So can we, if we are his children. Jesus
educated concerning “seeing” and recorded: Luke
12:54 “And
he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west,
straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is. Luke
12:55 And
when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it
cometh to pass. Accept
God’s offer of eternal life on faith; now! If not, soon there will
come an accounting as children are made adults in the Spirit. Don’t
wait to SEE. Luke
17:23 “And
they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them,
nor follow them. Revelation
16:15 “Behold,
I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his
garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
Luke
13:28 “There
shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham,
and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God,
and you yourselves thrust out. Ephesians
5:15 “See
then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
Revelation
1:7 “Behold,
he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also
which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because
of him. Even so, Amen.” Know
God, know peace. 02-04-2020 BLL
