How
Great Thou Art
“O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.” (Psalm 139:1)
In
the wonderful Psalms 139th we discover King David talking to to His
King; Father of all. He is praying to the omniscient, omnipresent,
Creator God, the King of kings and Lord of Lord. As often occurs when
talking with God, David begins to reflect on his standing in the
Spirit. As he praises God for His majestic attributes, his thoughts
and words drift into introspection.
(verses
2-6) Clearly David writes that God knows our every thought and
movements; if we sit or if stand. He even knows our minds hold no
secrets from God. Furthermore, He knows our design and habits, good
or bad. He knows our words better than we do ourselves. In
everything, God knows and guides if we allow Him to do the guiding.
“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,” David plainly
states that neither he nor we, trapped as we are in this body of clay
with all its imperfections and limitations, can comprehend this
omniscience.
(verses.
7-10) The huge question: Where can we go to escape His omnipresence;
no where. Neither to heaven nor hell. Not to the air or the sea.
Neither darkness nor light will hide us. Nothing can shield us from
His presence. In all things, He leads and guides His own.
(v.14-22)
Thinking such lofty thoughts should compel us to praise and and
Glorify God in thankfulness
as David did
in this Psalms.
Our
creation and growth is the focus of Davids prayer. God
caused
us to be in the womb. He gave life unto us before we were even a
small spot beginning to mature into life. He certainly knew
us in the womb as
we developed into a living being. He never left us and He controlled
each stage of our embryonic development. He knew and planned all the
events of our lives “How
precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God!” They are
innumerable.
(22-18)
As David talks to God the Great power and holiness gradually sinks
into his soul. Comparing himself to God, Davis understands his sinful
weaknesses.
God’s holiness made
David painfully aware pf
his minute stature compared to that of God. We need to pray to the
same conclusion.
Recognition of God’s nature should bring us to a place of
submission and a desire for holiness, as well as a yearning to follow
fully the all
powerful and all knowing
God. “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my
thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in
the way everlasting”
Know
God, know peace. Amen. 11-03-2019 Bll.
