TO BASICS
Matthew
28
Before
departing this earth and sending His replacement the mighty
comforting Holy Spirit to guide and correct, Jesus left the basics
which were to be taught in His name. In other words just as though He
were
doing
the teaching
himself. In
His name is by His authority.
Mat.
28:18
And
Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All
power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19
Go
ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20
Teaching
them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo,
I am with you alway, even
unto the end of the world.
Amen.
The
arisen Christ gave His disciples a stern commission.
The
apostles and his ministers were
to
go out
among all
nations. The salvation they were to preach, is a common salvation;
whoever will, let him come, and take the benefit. Everyone
is
welcome and
encouraged to come
to Christ Jesus. Christianity is the religion growing
from requesting sinners
who apply
for salvation’s
delivery
from deserved wrath and from all
sin. Jesus
applies to the mercy of the Father, through the atonement of the
incarnate Son, and by the sanctification of the Holy Spirit, and
submits
himself to be a
worshiper
and servant of God. This
He accomplished
in
the manner of
the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, three Persons but one God.
Baptism
is an outward sign of that inward washing, or sanctification of the
Spirit. Representing
the death, burial and resurrection to newness of life. It solidifies,
seals and evidences the believer's justification. The
commission of Christ's ministers extends to every creature throughout
the world, and the declarations of the gospel contain not only
truths, encouragements, and precepts, but also most awful warnings.
Luke
24:44
And
he (Arisen
Christ) said
unto them, These
are
the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all
things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and
in
the prophets, and in
the psalms, concerning me.
46
And
said unto them, Thus
it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from
the dead the third day:
47
And
that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name
among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Romans
8
38
For
I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor
principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39
Nor
height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate
us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
8
But
what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even
in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we
preach;
9
That
if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt
believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou
shalt be saved.
10
For
with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth
confession is made unto salvation.
12
For
there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same
Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
14
How
then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how
shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall
they hear without a preacher?
15
And
how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How
beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and
bring glad tidings of good things!
The
way is simple. The road is narrow. The gate that entereth into God’s
sanctuary is strait. We must help the few find it who will find it.
To do this effectively, we must stick to the basics of Jesus and Him
crucified unto death, burred and resurrected for atonement of all our
sins. Know God, know peace. Amen 11-22-1920 BLL
