Know Yourself

Know Yourself

Before a sovereign God, our shortcomings and our achievements are clearly visible. Always strive to dwell in the spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. We are all mortals. We all sin. We all strive to “put our best foot forward.” We should strive to meet the criteria of leveling out our self worth. We are, by the grace of God, what we are. Our measly accomplishments are so minuscule in His way that they seem non existent. He measures our spiritual gains and losses and that is why we declare Him a just God. Apostle Paul wrote in a letter to the church at Rome:

Romans 12:3 “For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.”

Thinking with sober judgment refers to the clarity with which we evaluate our circumstance and apply decisive judgment.” It calls for doing away with pride or conceit in our relationships with other believers. Everyone’s faith will lead them down different paths, but as long as they are all focused on God and we are each faithful and obedient to His will, we should not assume that our faith is stronger than another persons faith. We must not attempt to decide right way and wrong way based on physical attributes. Nor should we feel our faith is weak. It is God who directs each of us, and His purposes are what we are to submit ourselves.

Long years ago an English poet Rudyard Kipling, composed a poen that made the top one hundred best poems category. He called it “If.” Here is the closing verse.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

    Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

    If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

    With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,  (in part)

Christians should become familiar with this writing and search the scriptures for support verses. It will be a life rewarding experience. Know God, know peace. Amen 04/19/21 BLL
