No Bridge

No Bridge

There was a swinging bridge suspended by cables across the river flowing past Bullet Park in Big Stone Gap. Annually, Christians gathered in that park and held a singing convention. There was food aplenty for all. Entertainment aside from the singing was meager. Older children walked a short distance to tour the Museum. Some liked to bounce on the swinging bridge. Time wore its cables and it gave way with an overload of people on it. Many were injured. My friend and I swung on that bridge several times. But, as it hung on a single cable tilted out perpendicular, no one could travel its span across to the other side. One dark night on highway US 23 just out of Duffield, Virginia motorists arrived where a bridge had spanned across the SS&R Railroad. It had fallen and they plunged into the deep gorge. Clinch River has several swinging bridges crossing its swift running water. Some have fallen and some are condemned. One in Clinchport, Virginia recently lost one cable and tilted side wise. Bridges are unpredictable. This may be why there are physically no bridge one can traverse to heaven’s gate.

In Genesis we find a crossing. But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.” (God could have built a bridge. God knows best.)

Exodus 14:22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.” (God forbade it to work for Phararoah’s army)
Joshua 3:17 And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.” (No bridge)
2 Kings 2:8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.”
Luke 16:26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.” (No bridge)
Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (Luke 13:24) “Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.”
Christ is our only bridge. We see few accepting Him. Know God, know peace. Amen. 12/06/20 BLL
