Look into the Water
Look into the Water
As a boy, so very long ago, I sat one day on a bridge placed by President Roosevelt's “CC Boys,” across Willow Brook. The year was 1956. It was fall. A conglomeration of colorful leaves cascaded slowly from beneath the bridge on their way to where only God knew. A willow switch twirled aimlessly in contented hands.
Unshod, dangling feet went unnoticed by the multitude of water life below. Birds sang their final songs before winter. Occasionally a playful grasshopper fluttered by only to crash prey to the fish below. While a gentle breeze caressed a wavy bunch of hair, the evening sun warmed a shirtless back. There was peace in “The Valley.” Polio had become no threat. Corona was a word unknown. It was so pleasant in the midst of God’s creation. But, one could not long tarry. There were chores aplenty and boys were expected to “carry their weight.” The water was alive and with a final glance into it, a pile of fall tasks were attacked while a soul apart drifted aimlessly in God’s living water.
1 John 5:8 “And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.”
John 7:38 “He that believeth on me [Jesus], as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”
Revelation 21:6 “And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. [John 4:14] “... whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
Revelation 22:17 “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come... And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”
