“That which has Been”...the Wayfarer 7/17/14

“That which has Been” 7/17/14 “That which hath been is now; that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past. (Ecclesiastes 3-15) Today we go to one of my favorite books in the bible for our scriptural guidance, and I open with one of my favorite verses from that book. Solomon opened the book asking the question;     “What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?” (Ecclesiastes 1:2) That question still haunts each man at the end of his days. Has the life lived been worth the effort expended? Have the attempts to secure a future for his children been successful? Has his purpose for living been accomplished? What has been the point of having endured the bad times? Was there a better way to have spent the allotted time given him? Most, on reflection, will find that time misspent, those rewards that have been chased inadequate, the approach of death fearful, and the certainty of eternity ...

"It is Appointed unto Men"...the Wayfarer 8/12/14

“It is Appointed unto Men”  8/12/14 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” (Hebrews 9:27&28) For today’s message I choose to cover two subjects that are constantly and studiously avoided by most in our society today; death and sin. The discussion of death is most often avoided because of unwillingness to accept our own mortality. The discussion of sin is avoided for much the same reason, most are unwilling to even define sin, much less admit their guilt of it. We will attempt to cover these because, without the understanding of why they exist, they will continue to be ignored and avoided resulting in eternal separation from the love of our God. There are two kinds of death, as we will also discuss today, physical and spiritual. Why must we face a physical death? ...

Who is this King of Glory?...the Wayfarer 8/17/14

Who is this King of Glory? 8/17/14 "Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of Glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory?  the Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah (Psalm 24:7-10) It is easy to become discomforted, disturbed, depressed, even feeling abandoned and alone when facing all the raging warfare for the souls of men that occurs daily among us. These are the tools of a lesser being constantly trying to force us to forget the power of God who has already overcome him despite the noise, and show of a false power held by one doomed to face the eternal torment chosen so long ago when he sought to be the equal of his Creator. It is easy to find that forgetfulness, unless the absolute confidence...

Tremble, thou Earth...the Wayfarer 9/15/14

Tremble, thou Earth 9/15/14 (Psalm 114) "When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language; Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion. The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back. The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs. What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back? Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs? Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord , and the presence of the God of Jacob; Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters." The need to tremble has not changed, and will not change, the reason for that trembling has not changed, and will not change. The power that created that trembling is unchanging, as is the promise as well! (Hebrews 13:5-8) "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such thing...
