Why
Why
Why may be the most frequently ask question. Just because is the easiest answer. Why do bad things happen to good people? Why does God let little children suffer tragedies and disease? Why, why, why seems the best response to the calamities of life. We ask one another. We ask politicians and ministers and we ask one another. If there were an obvious answer, there would be no need for the question. If there is a known answer it often takes study or reforming of the question. As we pass through life’s allotted time, there are two major spiritual forces working in and about us. Minor self-induced forces such as free will, faith, mental awareness, and spiritual discernment are only a few of these. It all began many centuries ago. In the beginning, God created the universe, the earth, and all that is in it. He made all things perfect. There was no sickness, accidents nor even death. However, when he finished creating humans and instilled in them the trait of free choice. They had good, clean, and pure spirits. With that condition they became dissatisfied. An offer from a spirit of death entered and they accepted the promise of becoming like gods. Why could they not see the fallacy in that offer? They did in fact become as gods but to their detriment and not to grandeur. How can the clay direct the potter's turn-style; it cannot. Neither can humans effectively operate God’s creation. Add evil spirits into the mess humans stirred in their God-given perfection and the “why” becomes evident. Since God had instilled in humankind a free will to love and dwell within his borders of safety and security, he stepped back and honored their decision to manage their own affairs. Look what a mess has resulted from the lying truth in Satan’s statement to Eve.
Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
Genesis 3:2 “And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Genesis 3:17 “And unto Adam he (God) said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
Job 14:1 “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.”
Ephesians 5:15 “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.”
God sent His only begotten Son, the euphony of innocence, to suffer and die on the cross that, while our flesh suffers evil things, our souls may rest in peace. As Jesus walked among us he healed and made whole all who came to him believing. It is not His will that any should experience the things that precipitate the “why” question. Our ignorance, our disobedience, our lack of faith, and our rebellion against God’s will are the ingredients that mix to form the suffering of many things. Know God, know peace. Amen. 06/04/21 BLL
