Who Has Your Back?

Who Has Your Back?

One late evening, several years past, a lone deputy sheriff faced off with an armed villain. This fellow was a cruelly malicious person who was devoted to wickedness and crime. Armed with a .30-30 caliber rifle, he stood in a “Mexican stand off” with the officer and his .38 caliber Colt revolver. Blood ran down the officers back from an ax wound already administered by this person. A mobile home separated the officer from his partner. Intense focus, “tunnel vision,” absorbed all the officers faculties. The usual command was given several times as sirens from back up could be heard arriving. This would make the decision to fire unavoidable. Someone was going to fall; most likely an arriving officer. The decision was made and the hammer snapped shut on the officers pistol; a misfire. Instantly the villain disappeared around the corner and was gone. But, the following day came in wish his bondsman and submitted to the service of a warrant charging attempted murder.

An accompanying young man was with him and spoke: “you’d have shot him iffin yer gun hadn't been empty.” He had been behind the officer close enough to hear the hammer fall. He had been in the earlier fray armed with a hay fork. He was the one watching the officers back.

Exodus 14:19 “And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:

Numbers 22:31 “Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.”

2 Samuel Chapter 11:14 “And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah. 15 And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.”

Matthew 26:56 “...Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.” Matthew 28:20 “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Christians Jesus has your back. Sinners know God, know peace. Amen 11-23-2020 BL
