Wants

Want

There are many wants in life. As children we want many things. Most of these wants are not what we should acquire. As we mature our wants increase in substance and value. For some of us, our wants are beyond our reach financially; others we may obtain. The lessons learned in our childhood carry over into adult hood. A dear friend once told me that learning to “make do” and be satisfied with what you have is a most valuable lesson. This is true. It is okay to throw rock at the moon just so long as you don’t waste your entire life believing you will somehow, someday hit its glowing face. Some parents never accept the fact of needing to control the run away desires of their children in getting their every want. These children often falter in maintaining a stable and well balanced adult life. We can’t simply wish away disasters, calamities or diseases in our life. God manages his children well. He tells us, as President Lincoln told sitting Bull just prior to the battle of Little Big Horn, “endeavor to preserver.” In our current upheaval in accustomed living we must practice those same instructions.

Proverbs 22:6Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
Luke 15:11 “11 And he (Jesus) said, A certain man had two sons: 12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. 13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. 14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”
1 Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. (1 Timothy 8) And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.”
Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
No need to wonder why old age finds some of us in a home being cared for by strangers who are paid through social security. Silver spooned children raise silver spooned children; no room for gray haired parents. Know God, know peace. Amen 11-09-2020 BLL
