How Firm a Foundation
How Firm a Foundation
The first chill of Autumn saturated the morning air around Willowbrook Cabin. The structure had stood the test of time since its construction in 1944. It had weathered storms, floods and land creep covered its foundation. At its laying, the foundation consisted of huge locust poles placed atop short locust block set upright in the marshy earth. After seventy-seven years a main side beam gave way to rot and dropped beneath its load. The crack, whack and swish of my Brother Gene’s shovel testified to the removing of dirt, rot and debris. He would reset the beam on improved materials to ensure a stronger foundation.
This foundation is temporal also. But I have a mansion not built by hand that will endure for all eternity. It is not of this earth whose very foundation will perish.
- 2 Samuel 22:8 “Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.”
- 1 Kings Chapter 5:5 “And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.” 7 And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.” 13 And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men. 17 And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.”

And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.” - Job 38:4 “Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. - Luke 6:48 “He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.” Luke 6:49 “But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.”

- Revelation 13:8 “And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
- There are many foundations: spiritual, physical and imaginary. Only the spiritual foundation laid with Christ as its mortar wil stand the test of time. Know God, know peace. Amen 11-05-2020 BLL
