Of All Men Most Miserable

 8/18/19

1 Corinthians 15:19 King James Version (KJV)

19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

Misery or joy, each controls the life that holds the emotion associated with either word.

Both are a choice for every man, available for the asking, both become the essence of the one holding that emotion.

Paul addresses hope held IN THIS LIFE,  completely understanding that "this life" is not all that there is to be, but that there exists another life that is far  longer that is faced at the end of the one being lived.

All misery entering any life is, in some way invited into that life through choices made by those living them.

It most often comes, disguised, as the things most desired by the one living that life, discernable only after finding that all that glitters is far from being gold.

Once invited into that life, evil then will manifest itself in the form of what it really is, whether it is the depth of despair found at the bottom of the bottle that promised  release from despair rather than what is brought with the content of that bottle, drugs or alcohol  whether taken in glass or syringe.

It comes n the form of ruin as promises of get rich quick schemes propagated  by others destroy fortunes large and small.

It comes in the form of what is touted as love shows itself  to be only lust that destroys the very possibility of love.

All of these are invited in, doors held open to false promise, to everyone failing to heed the warnings given in advance of their arrival.

All have the intent of stealing all reason for being, all semblance of the joy intended to be given in place of that misery if the warnings are heeded, and the moment becomes what it is, a moment only, to be endured as the reality of eternity is seen rather than the false promise given to steal an eternal promise far more valuable than any imagined by fallible men.

Nations fall when false promise is given through treaties never intended to be honored, those treaties seeming to hold a promise of peace that cannot be obtained once the true intent of the treaty breaker is seen.

Yet men cling to the lies, all of them, as their hope is placed in men rather than God.

Redemption is rejected as repentance is refused.

Darkness is chosen over light as the intent of those living in that darkness hides within it.

Death was chosen over life when the first of the false promises was given Eve that rather than death, the fruit offered by the serpent would place her on a plane equal with her Creator.

Sin was compounded as Adam chose to listen to that same lie in full knowledge that God proclaimed that death MUST ensue if His commandment was ignored.

That sin continues to bring death, eternal separation from the Creator, as choice continues to be given to listen to any but that Creator.

Covenants given man to bridge the gap to eternal life were, and are broken...never by God, but by man, still clinging to the lies, still refusing the promise delivered by Christ, as they seek that promise in the prosperity of a life on this earth, without regard to the true promise of eternal life WITH God, assured by the sacrifice given through Christ Jesus.

Ashes return to ashes, dust returns to dust, blown by the wind that blows hither and yon at the pleasure of that Creator while the eternal soul awaits either final separation from Him or eternity lived in a joy and plentitude beyond the wildest desire of the human heart.

Choices are made daily whether to believe the lie, or the PROMISE given by Christ of resurrection to LIFE rather than the death brought by the lie.

That promise requires that we endure whatever "misery" may exist in this temporal and temporary frame that remains but a moment as eternity is reached.

I choose to believe the PROMISE, knowing the absolute and total Truth of that Promise given by Christ.

I choose to endure as demanded by my Savior.

I choose to believe the warning given that demands continual repentance until that promise is seen and nothing else matters.

I pray that my belief and faith in that Promise lead both those I love, and those who choose to be enemies recognize the LOVE available only through the TRUTH of that promise and are able to discern the lie that continues to be given them.

Yes, If the promise given were only to last the brief moment that comprises the short existence of this life, I would indeed, be of all men most miserable.

That promise exceeds the brevity of this life and the miseries that must coincide with that life.

It extends far beyond that moment lived here requiring endurance and is the only hope given mankind,

Despite the evil begun with the lie given Eve, the Promise remains.

Despite the evil that man perpetrates on man, despite the lies believed to bring temporary reward, despite all attempts to steal  what God has freely given, I choose to believe the promise!!!

2 Timothy 1:12 King James Version (KJV)

12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
Amen and  Amen
