John was a Wayfarer 11/3/14 “Peter, seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, what shall this man do? Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? Follow thou me. (John 21:21-23) John was a wayfarer, from the beginning of his discipleship as he walked with Jesus during the Savior’s ministry until his own death, a death unlike the other disciples, of old age and natural causes. Today’s title is in concert with this quote from Isaiah, the statement when normally made by men is not. Too often, throughout life we either hear explicitly, or, more often, implicitly the statement, “ It’s my way or the highway.” This of course meaning that there is only one acceptable choice available to the one spoken to, brooking no argument, no negotiation, no room for any opinion other than that of the speaker. Quite often, the way offered is untenable, and unacceptable to the hearer, particularly when the hearer finds subservience to the speaker unacceptable.
