But in Rghteousness ...the Wayfarer 8/9/14

But in Righteousness
8/9/14
"Ye  shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbor.
(Leviticus 19:15)
As Israel left Egypt, and progressed to the promise given them, the specifics of the laws given them were clarified and their intent refined and defined so that there could be no doubt as to that intent.
The book of Leviticus, so forgotten ignored or simply overlooked is a guide given that should not be ignored or forgotten by the followers of Christ Jesus, who stated  that he didn't come to destroy the law, but in fulfillment of it.
That fulfillment allowed for a direct approach to God making it possible to be purified without the ceremony and traditions that were required under the old covenant, but in no way negated the laws of behavior as set forth for God's people which determined what is, and is not, sin for that people.
Those original commandments, given Moses are in no way abrogated nor diminished in value by the coming of Christ, but in fact were clarified and refined and defined far better by him throughout this ministry to simplify obedience to their original intent.
The perversion of the additions and subtraction from those laws, and their very simplicity that had occurred required that Christ be given as a final sacrifice, that his teachings be given as the final refinement and guidance concerning those commandments, and that adherence to the things that crept into the law through the teachings of men, such as the scribes, Pharisees and lawyers, that corrupted that law, be seen and withdrawn for the benefit of all who would follow the law instead of the twists and turns given them that in fact was The reason for its corruption and avoidance.

"And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy.

Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my Sabbaths: I am the Lord you God.

Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the Lord your God.

And if ye offer a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the Lord, ye shall offer it at your own will.

It shall be eaten the same day ye offer it, and on the morrow: and if ought remain the third day, it shall be burnt in the fire.

And if it be eaten at all on the third day, it is abominable; it shall not be accepted.

Therefore every one that eateth it shall bear his iniquity because he hath profaned the hallowed thing of the Lord: and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of the field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest.

And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the Lord your God.

Provision within the commandments of God, given us through Moses clearly define what is holy, what is righteous, and that which fails to meet those marks.

Respect for parents, respect for what has been taught by those parents remains important, because it is only through the teachings passed down continually by those adhering to God's commandments, that they remain pure:

unadulterated, never watered down and diminished in meaning, thereby making them of no consequence or value to those intended to live by them.

Molten idols, though they may have changed in shape and perception of what is and is not an idol, remain a concern, as those idols continue to replace God simply by the greed and covetousness that make  their  acquisition so important that God's laws are relegated to the past, a mere passing philosophy instead of the intent for them to remain the guides and demands of what is acceptable to God, and that which is not.

Peace offerings are still given as well, though not considered to be such by many who give them.

Each  time a blessing is offered at a meal, it becomes a peace offering, asking God for that blessing not only on the food, but on the individual making the request.

Far too many fail to offer that simple peace offering, failing also to receive the intended blessing given us by that offering.

Guidance for the harvest, includes the whole harvest of all that is given by the grace of God, not only the food that is grown, but the riches bestowed upon each by Him that are intended to be shared with " the poor and stranger".

"Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.

And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the Lord.

Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a  stumblingblock before the blind, but shall fear thy God: I am the Lord.
(Leviticus 19:1-14)

Guidelines that may not be crossed or ignored: Rules to be obeyed: Laws with consequence, all given throughout both old and new testament, and most especially given by Jesus, never removed from the books, never changed, never to be denied  by those professing to be God's people.

Yet, that same people seem to willingly discard those guidelines, rules, and laws when they become inconvenient to them.

God remains a constant, never changing, never "progressing", never removing or revoking judgments made long before the "progressive" thinking of men and the "values" that they would replace them with.

"When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not do after the abominations of those nations.
(Deuteronomy 18:9)

Yet another book ignored and gathering dust untouched by the "scholars" and purveyors of platitude whose warm fuzzy is found so acceptable as they interspace the teachings of men with those intended by God for the benefit of His children, is that of Deuteronomy, still more of the same guidance, rules and laws of behavior, left unchanged in totality by Christ Jesus,  again one that needs attention given as those professing Christ meet the world and the teachings of other nations head on.

Just because something is made legal by any nation, state, country or group of men does not abrogate the law of God, and in no way abrogates the required obedience to that law given by Him.

Many of these laws have been removed from the lexicon of men, once more because they are inconvenient to them.

"The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd
(Ecclesiastes 12:11)

That shepherd is none other than the Son of God, who continues to be the ultimate Authority on the law, as well as the ultimate redeemer for those who choose to hear what He taught, and accept the sacrifice given for them by Him.

"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men.

Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously and godly, in this present world;

Looking for that blessed hope, ant the glorious appearance of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ;

Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke wit all authority, Let no man despise thee."
(Titus 2:11-15)

Guidance, rules, laws, commandments have been given.

Choice is also given to heed or ignore both the guidance and warnings that accompany them.

Along side that guidance comes the PROMISE!

It is the promise of eternal life given through Christ Jesus, without Whom none could ever be in compliance with the totality of the will of God.

It is only possible to attain that promise by hearing and heeding the warning given with it of the requirement of repentance in return for redemption.

That redemption is possible only through the blood of Christ Jesus, who willingly laid down a life here to take it up again in His resurrection that is assurance of our own.

Choose for yourself.

Even so come quickly, Lord Jesus!

2 Timothy 1:12 King James Version (KJV)

12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

Amen and Amen
