Second Coming

SECOND COMING

Revelation 19:11-16: “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

“The Second Coming of Jesus” is spoken of the future return of Jesus to this world, when he will engage the Enemy in battle, destroy evil and establish His millennial kingdom. With Grace filed consideration, He judges and destructively resists this final war.
Some ponder just what his appearance will be according to his Word. Well. We see in verse 12 that His eyes are burning with anger and filled with revenge. As flames of fire destroys all that touches them, so does the Grace filled judgment of God. Imagine if you don’t know Him as your Lord what it might be like when He stares down at you with those burning red eyes. He carried the authority of all Kingdoms and claimed ownership to all their crowns. He will have written a name butt no one knows where or why nor what it is.

His dress consisted of a special outfit that had the blood stains from His ordeal on the way to the cross to die for our sins. It is not the same cloth that was actually stained with His sacrificial blood. It will remind us that we are covered in His life giving Blood. Some who are not so blessed may remember how this cloak was stained red. They will know his name to be “The Word of God.’ We know that Christ our Lord is the Word of God. Spoken unto Himself and signifying Agape Love. It is the Word of God that builds our faith and it is the Word of God that saves lost soles.

The armies of heaven will be following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. We believe the army consists of heavenly beings and Saints. Blood is not spread on them. Their robes are snow white and made of fine linen clean and Holy.

Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. ‘He will rule with an iron scepter. The Word that He speaks will cut as though a sword had been sliced into the rulers of the world like a searing hot knife. He will reveal the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has the name written: King of Kings and Lord of Lords.” As Christians, we believe Jesus will return to earth in fulfillment of His promises and the prophecies also made about Him. Matthew 24:30 talks of this promise “At the time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming from the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory.” While we don’t know every detail of Jesus’ return, The Word gives us key information about His second coming, a promise Jesus has made to us. We don’t know the day or time of his taking out of the church or his second coming. They are not the same event. He will return from heaven to stand on earth just as he let us know and in the exact way He gave it to John. When he does come he will be heard and seen world wide. His coming will not be hidden under a bushel. Matthew 24:31 speaks of “a great sound of a trumpet” that stretches from “one end of heaven to the other.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16 also speaks of great sound. “For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God.” Revelation tells us that He will be seen. “Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him” (Revelation 1:7). We are warned by Jesus against false reports on Hid appearing here and there.. Matthew wrote: Matthew 24:26-27 “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For as lightening that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son on Man.” All will know him at his appearing.

We are told in Scripture that the second coming of Jesus will be “with power and great glory.” During Jesus’ first coming, he humbled himself, being born in a stable in Bethlehem and living a life on earth with great humility. That is not the role He will fill at his return, He will come King of Kings and Lord or Lords. On this day, in a triumphant return, the whole world will see and know who Jesus really was. Humility stands out in Jesus’ first coming. Glory stands out in his second. His return will be triumphant, marked with the powerful accompaniment of angels and saints. Know God, know peace.
