Getting Up

Getting Up

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

Far, far too often we Christians awaken to the realization that spiritually we have sunk into a pit of despair. Satan makes the fall easy. Our flesh nature readily accepts the many entangling facets of desire leading to confusion and eventually knocking us to our knees. It is so easy to wish so hard for some perceived thing of beauty that focus moves from Christ to self. God’s Word’s are, it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of an all powerful God. Drifting comes when we turn our face away from the cross due to Job loss, loved one's death, announced terminal illness, broken relationship or any of dozens of other life challenging disasters. The beautiful peace of the closeness to the Lord dwindles and unless we fall from self pity and worry, diminishes. It happens to the best of us when our knees become as stiff as our necks and prayer weakens. It has been said: “You don’t need to know it is what it is.” If we are to successfully fight the dragon, we need to know where and what he is. We cry ‘Abba.’ We drop our frame to the level to which our spirit has sunken. We ask God’s forgiveness, healing and tender mercies. We seek knowledge, wisdom and understanding. The pain will lessen and finally the weight of our slackness toward God will melt. Then, in victory over self and Satan, we will “rise up” victorious.

Arise, my love soothed soul and cast away all guilty fears. Jesus gave His all that we might be free. His bleeding sacrifice, on my behalf, carved my name in the nail scars in His hands. “Christ . . . hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God” (Ephesians 5:2), “we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access” (Romans 5:1-2) We have no need to fear life’s rejections, for “we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1 John 2:1). The man who received rejection from all people became Lord over all. He understands our rejection. He covers it with His blood. Our offenses and our offenders stayed nailed to the cross.

We can arise and “come boldly unto the throne of grace,” where God the Father reigns. We have assurance of access because our “surety of a better testament” (Hebrews 7:22) is “a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God” (Hebrews 4:14), and “who is [seated] on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens” (Hebrews 8:1). Here He requests the Father’s “mercy, and . . . grace” on our behalf, for He knows us by our names which are already “written in the Lamb’s book of life” (Revelation 21:27) “from the foundation of the world” (Revelation 17:8). Know God, know peace. Amen 04-05-2019 BLL
