In Times of Need
In
Times of Need
“Let
us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain
mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews
4:16)
Charles
Wesley
once
composed a song. Let us consider a few lines of that song.
Arise,
my soul, arise; Shake off thy guilty fears;
The bleeding sacrifice in my behalf appears:
Before the throne my surety stands,
My name is written on His hands.
The bleeding sacrifice in my behalf appears:
Before the throne my surety stands,
My name is written on His hands.
In
these few lines we recognize that sinners are enjoined to come to to
the Throne of Grace seeking salvation and by the power of the
sacrificial blood Jesus shed on their behalf, receive forgiveness and
eternal life with our Lord and Savior.
Because
“Christ
. . . hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God”
(Ephesians
5:2),
“we
have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we
have access”
(Romans
5:1-2)
to the Father, who alone has the power to forgive our sins. We have
no need to fear rejection, for “we
have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous”
(1
John 2:1).
He
said all that will come, come. Any who seek Gods face finds it.
We
are
His children and we must
“come
boldly unto the throne of grace,”
where God the Father fills
His throne with Grace.
We have assurance we
will be allowed to enter therein
because of
our
“surety
of a better testament”
(Hebrews
7:22)
is “a
great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of
God”
(Hebrews
4:14),
and
“who is [seated] on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in
the heavens”
(Hebrews
8:1).
Here He requests the Father’s “mercy,
and . . . grace”
on our behalf, for He knows us by our names which are already
“written
in the Lamb’s book of life” (Revelation
21:27)
and
have been
“from
the foundation of the world”
(Revelation
17:8).
Know
God, know peace. Amen 07-01-1920
