“Go set a Watchman”...the Wayfarer 4/23/14

“Go set a Watchman” “For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.” (Isaiah 21:6) Isaiah, in his prophesies covered the entire world that was known of the time. Of particular interest, Babylon was prominent, because of the power it held throughout that world. Babylon was the “superpower” of its day, full of riches, having large and competent armies, conquering and pillaging all about them forcing subjugation on all those peoples conquered. It was both feared and respected by Israel and all of its bordering neighbors. Because of this power, those conquered and subjugated were forced to accept the customs and laws of those now in charge.   This extended down to, and in particular, religious worship of any kind, their own gods given absolute priority, above any worshipped by the conquered. Once their laws were established within the conquered nations, any violation of those laws was severely punished. The law...

Victory in Jesus...the Wayfarer 4/8/16

Victory in Jesus  4/8/16 1 Corinthians 15:57-58 King James Version (KJV) 57  But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. Victory, the opposite of defeat, having won, not having lost, having completed, not having failed to complete the mission that has been given, is important in all aspects of warfare, and even more important in in the foremost aspect of life itself. Victory in warfare comes often on the coattails of what seems to be imminent defeat, comes with a cost of blood, pain, losses suffered along the way that at times seems insurmountable. So it is too with life itself. Victory is not found in any single battle being fought, in any single skirmish, in any single action that results in the gain or loss of each small pi...

Help Thou mine Unbelief...the Wayfarer 3/17/16

Help Thou mine Unbelief “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” (Mark 9:23 & 24) One night, at GF, I was privileged to be fed through the sermon delivered by our associate pastor. One major point that is regularly made by this brother is the continued and constant need to have the true communication with God through prayer; and that without that prayer, faith, and true faith cannot be found. In the opening verses I returned to the miracle performed by Christ as described in Mark, though there are numerous examples of those miracles performed by Him throughout the gospels.  The statement, made by Jesus ,to this father of a child possessed by an evil spirit, is reflective of that very need for faith, and the means to attain that faith spoken of so eloquently by my brother l...

All Things New...the Wayfarer 12/28/16

All Things New 12/28/16 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Resolution:  The absolute intent of follow-through, intended to improve health, circumstance, and other aspects of life. These resolutions, though so well intended, are most often also broken soon after having been made, because the resolve that is the requirement of resolution is in fact missing from the halfhearted lip service given them instead of the commitment required for the follow-through. Change is honestly wished for, but the necessity of making that change in other aspects to initiate that change is not recognized. This is a result of the failure to comprehend, or accept what is truly needed to initiate that change. An alcoholic will resolve not to drink as much, or even to drink at all, an addict will resolve to stop taking the drug of choice, either by tapering off or by going ...

Let me Live in the Light Of His love...the Wayfarer 8/13/16

Let me Live in the Light Of His Love  8/13/16 John 12: 35-36 35  Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. 36  While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them. Walking and living in the Light of the love given us by Christ Jesus never meant, and still does not mean walking an easy and comfortable path as that light shines brightly through a darkness that still has no understanding of that light. That darkness continues its attempt to consume and extinguish that light, as it did from the moment it was lit when Jesus came to bring it to us. The flame of that light is FAITH, a flame that may flicker in the onslaught of the wind, or flare brightly despite that wind, using the wind itself ...
