Let your Soul Delight Itself

“Ho, everyone that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he
that hath no money; come ye, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
Wherefore do ye spend
money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which satisfieth
not? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your
soul delight itself in fatness.”
(Isaiah 55:1&2)
Thirst and hunger are things that may
be understood by almost all. It is a rare man who has experienced the deep
cravings of these two bodily warnings that come with the need for nourishment
to continue the life of that body.
Perhaps, there may be some rare
medical condition that allows some to experience a lack of these manifestations
that are a part of what is passed to us through the wisdom of our very genetic
make-up… If so I have never met any of them, but am unqualified to state that
they do not exist.
Much of life is spent in effort to
assuage these two innate cravings.
As they are assuaged, other more
complex deep desires come into play, either to the benefit or detriment of the
human body and soul.
The bodily needs, once met, allow for
the search for wants. It is the wants that can, if allowed take precedence over
the needs and starve the soul, denying it that very nutrition needed.
Though the body is attended to,
regularly and rigorously, that soul also requires nutrition. If it is starved,
death ensues as surely as if the need for food and drink were ignored or
unfulfilled.
“Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul
shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure
mercies of David.
Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a
leader and commander to the people.
Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and
nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the Lord thy God, and
for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.
Seek ye the Lord, while he may be found, call ye upon him
while he is near.
Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his
thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him;
and tour God, for he will abundantly pardon.”
(Isaiah 55:3-7)
Nourishment of the soul, comes not
through the access of the body through the mouth, and the things that are taken
into it through the mouth, but comes instead through the eyes and ears that
allow sight of the truth, hearing and acceptance of the truth, allow windows
through a mind given with which to comprehend what is heard and read and that
which is seen that verifies what has been heard and read.
Starvation must occur if that
verification is not given, because if it is not verified by seeing the results of
that satisfaction of the hunger and thirst for the needs of the soul, the body
once again takes precedence and smothers the longings that give warning to the
need for that sustenance that can only be provided through the scripture, and
the Holy Spirit brought into that soul through what is contained within it…the
Word!
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto the treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath
found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and
buyeth that field.”
(Matthew 13:44)
Christ used parables to teach, and
within those parables He used the things that were related to men to be valuable
to them to bring a deeper understanding of the true value of eternal life and
the kingdom that is the promise for all willing to accept that promise.
The 45th verse through the
50th verse stresses the value of that kingdom, and gives warning to
those who fail to seek the true value of what is available, choosing only to
search for the things wanted by a corrupt and corporal body that houses that
eternal soul so in need of the nourishment spoken of both by Isaiah and indeed
by Christ himself throughout his ministry.
“I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that
thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that
the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and eyesalve, that thou mayest see.”
(Revelation 3:18)
These words spoken to the church of
the Laodiceans, echo loudly to all today with that same stringency to seek the
nourishment and protection of the covering of the soul in its needed raiment
above that sought for a body that will no longer need either food or drink once
it begins to rot, becoming only putrid meat once that eternal soul departs it
to stand in judgment awaiting the final and eternal disposition of that soul.
“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven
and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
And I John saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from
God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the
tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be
his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there
shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any
more pain: for the former things are passed away.
And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold I make all
things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the
beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of
the water of life freely.”
(Revelation 21:1-6)
The truth and faithfulness of these
words left us by John through the revelation given Him by Christ stand without
doubt!
Thirst will be slaked, hunger
assuaged, all needs taken care of, desires will be fulfilled beyond the
imaginings of the human mind, rewards far greater than any available through
the practices and machinations of a body that covets all it sees, but
comprehends the value of nothing while still allowed to stand on this puny
planet, that will, itself, be expunged from existence to make way for that
which is far better.
The time for consideration of what is
bought, is while buying it. Buyer’s remorse only comes after having made that
purchase.
What have you bought with what has
been given? What do you continue to buy?
I close again quite content to be
repetitive, still that same simple sinner saved by grace through faith, having
myself been purchased with the blood sacrifice of my savior, Christ Jesus, remembering
the messaged given of redemption for repentance alone, remembering that value
lies in the eyes of the beholder, also remembering to look through the eyes of
the soul instead of only those of this body.
I remain also that soldier holding on to what
has been bought, hoping others may see the value and also seek to find that
salvation given, that promise given when the nutrition needed by the soul is
given. My soul is fat and satisfied; the only longing is for others to be as
well.
Having long since forgiven those who have wronged me, and praying that any that may feel wronged by me also forgive, I pray also that each find the Way, Truth and Life given through Christ Jesus, and grasp the redemption I have found through repentance to Him.
2 Timothy 1:12 King James Version (KJV)
12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
Again, repetitiously, I close with
His words instead of my own:
“And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to
give every man according as his work shall be.
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first
and the last.”
(Revelation 22:12 &13)
Amen and Amen
