The Well is Deep

John 4:11 KJV
The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

As Jesus sat, speaking with the woman of Samaria, she was perplexed and nonplussed at the offer extended of living water that quenched a thirst continually, without the need to be replaced by more that could be drawn only by means of a vessel and the means to lower that vessel to the water.

As the conversation continued, the thirst was defined as far more than a natural need of water, being, rather, a need for the refreshment and comfort of an eternal soul that could be reached only through the Vessel able to draw from a well within that Vessel itself.

Many times in life that refreshment seems distant, the depth of the well prohibitive to drawing from it, as the means chosen for drawing remains inadequate.

Depression and despair often make that depth from which that refreshment man be drawn all the more inaccessible as other vessels and means of drawing are sought.

It is during these times that it is most important to remember the Well within the Vessel itself, and the necessity of that Vessel for any refreshment to be drawn.

The passage from which the opening verse was taken is a reminder of the importance of that very Vessel to any who would draw from the Well within it.

A tired, thirsty, Savior took time to convey the means of that refreshment to a recalcitrant and prejudicial woman, who at first saw only a ragged Jew, despised and denigrated by her own people, that people equally despised and denigrated by them as well.

The offer extended of living water did not go unheeded, nor was it unquestioned until the questions were finally answered through belief and faith in the Vessel itself and the Well within that Vessel was seen for what it truly was, and is.

That same living water remains available through the same means it was then attained, faith and belief in the only begotten Son of God.

The depth of that Well is unfathomable, infinite in ability to continue to quench the "thirst" spoken of that day by that Vessel.

As each trial comes, tribulation ensues, misery is encountered, the importance of returning to that Well through the Vessel needs to be remembered as other vessels offered can not draw from the Well, but draw only from the dry dust of the earth contained in all the other "wells" offered.

As sweat is exuded, and tears shed depleting the body, while the stress of incomprehension and questions unanswered  deplete the very souls of those in need of refreshment, that living water continues to grant sustenance and life to those willing to remember the Vessel, and return to the Well, that once found remains available throughout the life of all finding it.

2 Timothy 1:12
King James Version (KJV)
12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day

Amen and Amen
