Straining at a Gnat...the Wayfarer

Straining at a Gnat   Matthew 23:23-24 KJV 23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. 24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.   Today I am compelled to return to the 23d chapter of Matthew, and the words spoken there by Christ Jesus to those gathered in His presence, some to hear his teachings, others there solely for the purpose of attempting to discredit those teachings as was seen in the previous chapter. Misdirection and obfuscation were the intent and order of the day for those who sought to continue to protect and propagate their own position, as well as to keep the masses under subjugation while increasing their own stature and wealth among them. Tenets of law were expounded, questions of law were asked for the poss

Help is on the Way 1 Kings 17:10-14 10  So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. 11  And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand. 12  And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. 13  And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. 14  For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon th

In the Shadow of the Cross Luke 23:28-34 King James Version (KJV) 28  But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. 29  For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck. 30  Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us. 31  For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry? 32  And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death. 33  And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. 34  Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. Despite the fact that He was unjustly accused, unjustly apprehended, and was being u

If I Could Hear My Mother...the Wayfarer

If I C ould Hear My Mother Luke 16:31 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. Today's title  is once more taken from a precious Hymn heard in my youth, one now neglected often in the assemblies of those who have succeeded those who once lifted voice in praise and in prayer for children, grandchildren, family and friends in hope that the effectiveness of that prayer and praise be heard and heeded. If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again How sweet and happy seem those days of which I dream When memory recalls them now and then And with what rapture sweet my weary heart would beat If I could hear my mother pray again If I could only hear my mother pray again if I could only hear her tender voice as then How happy I would be t'would mean so much to me If I could hear my mother pray again She used to pray that I on Jesus would rely and always walk the shining gospel way
