How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me? Consider and hear me, O Lord my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death; Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved. The final portion of the opening verse is often quoted, memorialized in art, displayed prominently within the homes of many, as well as on the pages of social media. Few acknowledge that there are words given us by Joshua that precede them, words that give meaning and importance to those words that close this precious quote. These words comprise a portion of Joshua’s farewell address to the people he led for so
